Message From The Founder

Hello! Thank you for visiting www.myhurricanecenter.com. My name is Denise O'Berry and I'm the founder of this website.

When four hurricanes in a row ravaged the state of Florida in 2004, it was a pretty scary and nerve-wracking ordeal. Was the hurricane coming, or not? People in Florida spent weeks on pins and needles -- those who didn't already have their homes destroyed that is!

My family was very lucky to escape harm and only suffered the inconvenience of a week without electricity (no walk in the park!) during one hurricane and only a day or so during the others. We had very little damage in our area (Tampa Bay region), but I still found it difficult to locate the resources I needed quickly. I can't imagine how tough it was for the people who suffered great losses.

That's how this website was born. My intent is to bring you a site full of handy resources that will help you before a hurricane hits. Resources and tools for everyone who lives in a hurricane prone area -- from the northeastern Atlantic coast of the US to the Gulf of Mexico.

I didn't do this alone. I'm thankful for all the people who have contributed their knowledge through articles and tips. I'd love to hear from you too. Feel free to email me or submit a helpful hurricane tip. And don't forget to pick up your free hurricane poster to share at work, school or church. Through our experience we can all help.
